LizArt Art Exhibit

Orlando, Florida

LizArt was billed as “Orlando’s most exotic art exhibit.” The city had dozens of 7-foot lizards sculpted. They were placed in various high-profile places around Orlando, Florida. The lizards were to be auctioned off to corporate bidders and painted/decorated as those companies desired.

The money raised from this public art project would go to city cultural programs. The lizards would be promoted in ads and brochures as a scavenger-hunt activity for visitors to the city.

Challenge

Two Orlando advertising agencies, Ad Inns and Goodwyn Communications, were chosen to promote the LizArt project.  Together, they brought in Susan Greene, freelance copywriter, to create copy for the various promotional pieces they were producing to invite corporate bidders, attract artists to help decorate the lizards, and create buzz around the city.

Solution

Susan worked closely with the Ad Inns and Goodwyn Communications team to produce brochures, direct mailers and press releases that explained the program in a humorous, engaging way.

Result

All of the lizards sold at the auction, raising thousands of dollars for the city of Orlando.  Additionally, the campaign was well-received by tourists who enjoyed finding the lizards around the city and learning about the companies and artists behind each one.

Here's what the client said about the copy:

Susan wrote witty, engaging copy for our brochures that set the fun tone for the entire project.
